The BSEd major in Mathematics prepares students to teach mathematics with strong grounding in concepts, procedures, problem solving, pedagogy, and assessment. The program develops competence in relating mathematics to real-life situations and other curricular areas, using appropriate approaches and technological tools, and creating learning experiences that promote reasoning, discovery, and critical thinking. It forms future mathematics teachers who can help students appreciate mathematics not only as a body of knowledge, but also as a tool for analysis, creativity, and informed decision-making.
